According to Creole and Free Person of Color genealogist Christophe Landry, Eugene was born in 1860 in Petite-Anse, and "Eugène’s parents are still unknown, but he almost certainly is a son of Éloi Derouen and one of his many slaves."
Eugene Derouen, parents currently unknown, married Odelia Broussard, daughter of Eloi Rosemond Broussard and Josephine Celestine Lesser on 29 Jan 1881 in New Iberia, Iberia, Louisiana.
In 1900, Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana.
In 1910, Petite Anse Canal, Iberia Parish, Louisiana.
Eugene DeRouen died in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, age 77, on 16 Feb 1937.
The parents of Eugene Derouen are said to be Gustave and Estelle (Gary) Derouen. The problem is that Gustave was only 12 years old when Eugene was born. He didn't marry Estelle Gary until 1871 when Eugene was already 10 years old. Also census records indicate Gustave was white while Eugene was black.
Could not be the son of Marie Estelle Garry, born 1851 and married 1871. He probably isn't the son of Gustave Derouen who married Estelle in 1871. Disconnecting until there is proof of a relationship.
