Biography

Hugues de Sainte-Maure was the son of Goscelin de Sainte-Maure and his wife Aramburge^[1].

He was first married to a daughter of Jean de Cainon, by whom he had one son:

1. Guillaume, died in a siege in Gascony in 1086/87, between 15 and 20 years of age^[1].

He married secondly Adenorde de Montreuil, daughter of Berlay de Montreuil. They had the following children:

1. Goscelin II, killed in 1202
2. Hugues, killed, like his brother, 1202
3. Denise, wife of Gosbert Chabron.

Hugues de Sainte-Maure had three more children. Cawley suggests that they were born to a third (unknown) wife:

1. Guillaume, possibly born after the death of his elder half-brother, Guillaume
2. Pierre
3. Marquise^[1].
