DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:

Dewitt-1588 and DeWitt-974 do not represent the same person because: No proof these are the same person. Names of offspring do not match, for example.

Dewitt-1588 and DeWitt-974 appear to represent the same person because: Hello: I believe Peter DeWitt II (1588) and Peter DeWitt Junior (974) are the same person. They both were married to Mercy Massie (Massey). His father is Peter DeWitt I (DeWitt-558) and mother is Jane Bray (Bray-2050). The birth date on 1588 is incorrect. There is a DAR document that lists Peter DeWitt I as being born in New Jersey and moving with his father to Virginia where he enlisted in the Revolutionary War. I also found Probate papers for Daniel DeWitt mentioning his children's names. Daniel also has DAR paper work for his service in the war of 1812.
