Born of Miguel Cervantes' affair with Anna Franca de Rojas, Isabel was officially given over to the custody of Cervantes' sister Magdalena in 1599. In the record of this act, she is identified as Isabel de Saavedra (not Cervantes), granddaughter of Juan de Cervantes, but her mother's lawful husband Alonso RodrĂguez is still given as her father. Despite that, Isabel was otherwise recognized as Miguel de Cervantes' daughter.
