Sir Hugh de Venables - Baron of Kinderton

Son of William de Venables, 5th Baron of Kinderton and Margaret Dutton

Hugh married Agatha[1] de Vernon of Shipbrook, daughter of Sir Ralfe de Vernon Knight, Baron of Shipbrook and Mary Dacre, in 23 Edward I, 1293.

Hugh and Agatha had children:

  1. William de Venables, son and heir,[2] died in or after 6 Edward II, and the Barony was passed on to his brother Hugh.
  2. Sir Hugh de Venables,7th Baron of Kinderton; of Kinderton, heir of his brother William. (Born 1296 in Kinderton, Cheshire, England; died 1368 in Kinderton, Cheshire, England; married Katherine De Houghton 1338 in England
  3. Reginald de Venables, to whom his fahter gave the fourth part of Hope in Gradwall.

Hugh married Agatha De Vernon about 1295 at Kinderton, Middlewich, Cheshire, England, born 1280 in Shipbrook, Cheshire, England; died 1350 in Kinderton Norwich, Ches, England

On Monday after the Feast of St Chad, 3 Edward II [9 March, 1310] an agreement was made between lord Hugh Venables knight ("dominum Hugonemde Venables militem") and lord Peter of Dutton knight ("dominum Petrum de Dutton militem") respecting the marriage of Hugh's son and heir, William, with Peter's daughter, Agnes: Hugh was to enfeoff William and Agnes of 1 carucate of land and 10 marks of yearly rent in Eccleston to remain to the said Agnes in dower in case of her husband's death without issue by her and not to alienate his manors of Kinderton, Mershton, Witton and Eccleston to the dishereson of William. Sir Peter was to pay to Hugh in consideration of this agreement £130.6.8d, which was witnessed by (int. al.) Rano de Vernoun knight and William de Venables.[2]

In 6 and 7 Edward II [8 July 1312-7 July 1314], at Chester, David de Hulegreve and Agatha his wife, formerly the wife of Hugh de Venables, sued Thomas son of Henry de Wevere for dower of one messuage, one salt pit, 30 acres of land, one acre of meadow and one acre of wood in Bretherhulm and Middlewich; Thomas by his guardian Robert de Bulkelegh, vouched to warranty Hugh son of Hugh de Venables.[1]
