John DeWitt is also known as John Dervall in a genealogical biography of Southern NY[1]. He was an Indo-Atlantic merchant importer from New York (New Amsterdam).
John DeWitt ( aka Dervall) married Catherine Van Courtlandt on November 3rd, 1675, probably in New Amsterdam[1].
John DeWitt must have been deceased by 6 December 1692 as his wife remarried by then[1] to Colonel Philipse.
John DeWitt is identified as a business partner, actually a smuggler of Indian goods to America. He was prosecuted for illegal smuggling in the 1680's with Colonel Philipse [2]. John Dervall was also on the New York Council with Colonel Phillispe. When he died, his business associate, Colonel Phillipse, married John's wife.
John DeWitt/Dervall does not appear to have issue mentioned[3]
John DeWitt may possibly be buried in Sleepy Hollow.
