Biography

Eve Deal[1][2] was born about 1792 in Virginia.[3] [4]

She was married Jan 30 1813 in Frederick County, Virginia, to Thomas Hollingshead. They were the parents of one child:[1][2]

  1. Jacob Hollanshead

Eve's husband died the same year her son was born. Her name is spelled Iva in the History of Wyandot County. She was married in 1819 to William Stayner of Pickaway County. He and Eve raised her son Jacob.[1] They had the following children:

  1. Mariah (Stayner) Ream
  2. Thomas Stayner
  3. Susannah (Stayner) Bower
  4. John Stayner

From census records, more children were probably born to them, or they took in other children. The 1820 census shows them with one male and one female under 10 years of age, one male aged 16 to 25, and one female aged 26-44.[5] In 1830, they were living in the same county, with one female under 5 years old, two males and one female 5-9 years old, two males and one female age 10-14, one female 15-19 years of age, one male aged 20-29 and one female aged 30-39 years old.[6]

In 1850, the Stayner family lived next to several families with the surname Deal. The oldest of the Deal families was George Deal, age 72, and his wife Catharine, age 68, both born in Virginia. Valentine Deal, age 37, born in Ohio, lived just one house away from the Stayners.[4] From this, it appears that the Deal family left Virginia for Ohio about 1813, about the time Eve got married. After her husband's death, a family member probably came to Virginia and brought her to Ohio to be near her family.[7]

In 1860, with all their children gone from home, Ann Hollinshad, age 28, born in Virginia, lived with them, as a domestic.[3]

Eve passed away Jul 26 1863, and is buried in Hendrickson Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, Mation County, Ohio.[8]
