Seth Dean was born on October 3, 1755 in Hardwick, Worcester County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, son of Paul Dean and Mary (Whitcomb) Spooner. [1] [2]

Seth Dean of Templeton was a Revolutionary War soldier serving as a Corporal in Capt. Ezekiel Knowlton's company, Col. Nathan Sparhawk's regiment, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, to Cambridge, and as a Private in Capt. Jonathan Holman's and Jonathan Gilman's companies, Col. Ephraim Doolittle's regiment later in 1775, and in Capt. John Boynton's company, Col. Nathan Sparhawk's regiment enlisting for a month in the summer of 1777 and serving under Col. Job Cushing at Bennington, and for 9 months of 1778 at Fishkill in Capt. Josiah Wilder' s company, Col. Sparhawk's regiment when he was age 34 years and described as "stature, 5 ft. 8 (also given 5 ft. 6 and 5 ft. 7) in. ; complexion, dark" and giving his residence as Templeton. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Seth married Molly Bicknell June 3, 1782; at Barnard, Vermont. [8]
