Biography

Joseph Deane was one of the six children of Walter and Eleanor Deane who have been identified from records.[1]

David Martin proposed a birthdate of "say 1654," in Taunton, Massachusetts.[2]

Joseph Dean resided in Dighton, Massachusetts, where he made his will on 3 December 1728.[2] Vital Records of Dighton shows his date of death as 10 January 1728,[2] [3] but this probably is an old style date that should be interpreted as 10 January 1728/9 (i.e., modern-style 10 January 1729). His will was probated 11 February 1728/9. [2]

At the time of his will, he was married to wife Mary, and his living children were sons Joseph, James, and Samuel Dean, and daughter Sarah Read.[2]

Dean-929 and Deane-127 appear to represent the same person because: Analyses of this family indicate that Walter and Eleanor Deane had one known son named Joseph, so there shouldn't be two separate profiles for sons of this name. His birthdate is unknown, but he was not the oldest son (Ezra was) and he was almost certainly born in New England after the parents emigrated. I've added some sourced information to the Deane-127 profile, but I've not made conforming corrections throughout.

It appears to me, from sources, that Deane should be his LNAB and Dean his current last name.

Joseph is not my direct ancestor, so I don't have a lot of information about him. While 17-18 year old parents are not uncommon, then or now, what does stand out is that his parents were not married until much later. My records say1635/36, Wikitree says about 1640. That suggests the possibility that he was born out of wedlock or that his real mother may have died in childbirth. Anybody got ideas - or data?

Either his parents are incorrect or his birth year is. His parents would have been ages 18 and 17, which appears to be a bit young. Are there sources you can find for them?
