Biography

John Deane Jr., born in 1639, the first child born in the settlement of Taunton, Massachusetts, was the son of John Deane, born about 1600 at South Chard, Somersetshire, England, landed first at Dorchester and was one of the first settlers who came to Cohannet (Taunton) and made a permanent settlement. (p. 36-7) [1] His wife was named Alice.

John Jr. married Sarah, daughter of Deacon Samuel and Susanna (Orcutt) Edson of Bridgewater, on November 7, 1663. (p. 146) [2](p. 153-4) [3]

He died in February 18, 1717 aged 77, (p. 67) [2]during the great snowstorm of that year, and lay dead in the home for several days before notice could be sent to neighbors. (p. 37)[1]

He is buried in the Neck O Land Cemetery, Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts with his son John who died in 1724. Inscription: Here Lies The Body of John Deane - Aged 77 - Died in the Year 1717 - February the 18th [4]
