Johann, a.k.a. John, was born in 1720 in the Heiliges Römisches Reich (Holy Roman Empire) in what is now Germany. Being of low estate, he migrated to Pennsylvania as an indentured servant about 1734. After he fulfilled his contract, he prospered in Sumneytown [sic], Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He later settled in Northampton County Pennsylvania, near Bethlehem.
