Johann, a.k.a. John, was born in 1720 in the Heiliges Römisches Reich (Holy Roman Empire) in what is now Germany.[1] Being of low estate, he migrated to Pennsylvania as an indentured servant about 1734.[1] After he fulfilled his contract, he prospered in Sumneytown [sic], Bucks County, Pennsylvania.[1] He later settled in Northampton County Pennsylvania, near Bethlehem.[1]
