Mildred (Millie) Dechant Janes, 87, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2013.
She was born on November 15, 1925, in Hayes, Kansas to Henry and Veronica Dechant. Millie was raised on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas where she attended high school.
She married Joseph Janes in 1946. In 1956, they moved to El Paso, where they raised their sons and celebrated 60 years of marriage before her husband's passing in 2006.
Millie worked throughout her life time as a bookkeeper for several companies in El Paso including John Phillips Homes and several advertising agencies. She retired from Paxon Advertising in 1987. She enjoyed retirement with her husband, relaxing either at their home in Coronado Hills or tending to their apple farm in Glenco, New Mexico. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and visiting with her neighbors and friends.
Millie was a ray of sunshine to all those around her, always sharing her sweet smile and a laugh with her quick sense of humor. She was a friend, mother and grandmother not only to her own family but her extended family at Monte Vista nursing home where she has lived the past three years.
Millie will forever be sorely missed by her children Don and wife Celynn, grandchildren, Caitlin and Brian; Joe Jr. and wife Janet, grandchildren Kelly, Michael, Stephen; numerous nieces and nephews; her loving family at Monte Vista and many friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home West. Graveside service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 9 a.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of El Paso or the El Paso Cancer Society.
