Biography

Barbara was born in 1765. She died in 1818 at the age of 53.

Father: Tobia Decker 1749 -

Spouse: Allen Ramsey 1764 - 1845. He served during the American Revolution. He married 2nd, Elizabeth Reedy & they had 5 children. Findagrave #74898990 The bio in his burial page: "...Allen Ramsey married Barbara Decker at Washington County, Pennsylvani 11/18/1782..."

The following is from the book, Lawrence County Illinois. By the Lawrence County Historical Society:

"Allen Ramsey, according to the family bible, was born 6/12/1764 in Harford County, Maryland and died 8/15/1845 in the Orio community (now called Linn) in Wabash County, Illinois and is now buried there in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery. He moved with his mother, known as “Granny” and his stepfather, Joshua Thompson, to Washington County, Pennsylvania about 1775.

On 7/1/1780, in Washington County, he enlisted in Capt. William Bruce’s company, Colonel Cox’s regiment, as a substitute for his stepfather. His unit marched Pittsburg, then boated down the Ohio river to the mouth of the Muskingum and from there to the mouth of the Kanawha where he was discharged after serving his two months. On 6/1/1781, he was drafted and served three months as a Private under Captain John Walls. In 1782, he was again drafted and served two months under Colonel Crawford. During this period, he was engaged in a battle with the Indians and British at the Sandusky towns. The Americans were defeated and lost 300 men.

Allen Ramsey came to Post Vincennes (aka Fort Vincent) and now known as Vincennes, Indiana in 1784. He was granted land by the governor of Indiana for his service in the militia. In 1792, he was taken prisoner by the Pottawatamie and lost about $300.00 in property to them but was safely released. About 1819, he settled in Wabash County, Illinois. On 12/3/1833, in Wabash County, he applied for a Revolutionary War pension and was awarded $23.33 per year.

He married (1st) Barbara Decker, born 2/10/1765 and died 9/24/1818, daughter of Tobias ? Decker (1740? - ?) and by her had nine children.

He married (2nd) Elizabeth Reedy on 5/20/1820 (license dated 5/18/1820) in Knox County, Indiana. She was born 7/15/1790 and died 2/20/1845 and by her, he had four more children.

The children of Allen and Barbara (Decker) Ramsey were: 1) Sarah Decker Jackman. 2) Rev. William H. 3) Tobias Decker. 3) Allen Jr. 5) Aquilla. 6) Aaron. 7) Dorsey. 8) Susanna. 9) Lewis.

The children of Allen and Elizabeth (Reedy) Ramsey were: 1) Hiram Decker. 2) Nancy Ann Thompson. 3) Litherland Williams Pergio. 4) Charity Belle. 5) James Bruce."
