Biography

"A. H. Decker, an old veteran of the late Civil war, died on Thursday last, after an attack of grip with a complication of other ailments. He was an esteemed citizen, who will be greatly missed by his many acquaintances. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Emma Terwilliger and Mrs. Sarah Cope, and one son George Decker, the latter living in Binghamton, and ""two brothers, George Decker and Charles Decker, of New Milford, Pa."", and one sister. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. Parlett East, pastor of the church to which he belonged for many years." - Scranton Tribune, Feb. 15, 1901.

No Charles Decker found in New Milford on the 1900 Census. Other Deckers in New Milford, PA, in 1900 were:

  • George Decker (b. Feb. 11, 1845 NY) and Eleanor Stoddard (Nov. 16, 1851), married 28 years with one child only, Wellington (Feb 1876).
  • John Decker (b. Mar. 1857 NY) and Mary S. (Feb. 1862), married 10 years with two children not in the home.
  • William M. Decker (b. May 1837 PA) and Clara (June 1846), married 25 years, 4 out of 5 children living. Two in the home: Winton F (b. Oct 1885 PA) and Ethel I. (b. Apr 1888 PA)
  • Elwin M. Decker (b. Nov. 1857 PA) and Maria M. (Feb 1859), married 21 years with six children in the home: Edgar, Alma, Lutie, Della, Stephen, and Davis. Elwin's mother Sybil (b. Feb 1832 PA), a widow, was also living in the home. She had 2 out of 3 kids still living.
  • Martin Decker (b. Apr 1886 PA), a "hireling" in the home of Franklin Welman.
  • Frank O. Decker (b. Aug 1866 PA) and Julia E. (Mar. 1867), married 5 years with one child, Laura A. (Oct 1888).
  • Lewis D. Decker (age 63, no dates given), born in PA, married 18 years, not living with his wife. He was living as a "hireling" in the home of Andrew & Hulda Mosher. Frances M. Decker (female, "servant", (b. July 1883 PA), was also living in the home.
  • Clarence Decker (b. May 1854 PA), and his wife Amelia A. (June 1852), married 14 years and had no children.

There was a Charles Decker nearby in Montrose, PA, on the 1900 census. He was born in Sept. 1844 and was married abt. 1862 to Mary E. who was the same age. They had three grown children in the home and a grandson. [1]
