Ben was born on 5 September 1893, the son of William Decorah and Carrie Decorah.
His Hocąk name was MaHisSkaKah which is for Mąxiskaga, "White Cloud," which is from mąxi, "cloud"; ska, "white"; and -ga-, a definite article suffix used in personal names.
He was a private in the Army during World War I.
He died on 29 April 1976 (aged 82), and was buried in the Decorah Cemetery, Black River Falls, Jackson County, Wisconsin, USA. (Find a Grave)
