Yvonne Dedekam-Simonsen was the daughter of director Wessel (Christiansøn) Dedekam-Simonsen (1890 - 1962) and Bergljot, née Nilssen (born 1898). Yvonne was the second wife of the ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl (1914 - 2002) in Colla Micheri in Italy.
