Colonel Florence Irene Deegan, U.S. Air Force, Retired passed away on May 7, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born on July 19, 1920 in Cleveland, OH to Charles and Laura "Mares" Deegan. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Deegan; sisters, Mary Deegan Siml and Nora Deegan Holub; nephews, Charles Siml and James Siml. Survivors include her nieces, Laurel Karcher (Jerry), Kathy Arant (Walt), Joan White, and Marian Heine (John); nephews, Charles J. Deegan (Patti), Daniel Deegan (Peggy) and Tom Siml (Marie). She is also survived by her good and long time friend Lt. Col. Betty Goetz. She retired in 1970 at Scott AFB, Illinois as a Command Nurse for Air Evacuation. Her many military awards include the Air Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. A Memorial Mass will follow at the Army Residence Community Chapel at 1:00 P.M. followed by a reception.
