Biography
Eliza Jane DeFoe, daughter of John DeFoe and Mary Elizabeth Kelly, was born around 1826 in Lawrence, Tennessee.[1] She married John Gifford, a farmer from New York whose family had moved west to Alabama, marrying in Lauderdale, Alabama in 1847.[2]
Her husband, at the age of 43, mustered into Company C of the 16th Alabama Infantry Regiment, fighting for the Confederacy. After the war, he returned home and to farming in Lauderdale County.[3][4] Eliza Jane passed away in Lauderdale County 1880 and is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Florence, Alabama.[5]
Eliza was born in 1826. She passed away in 1880.
