Biography

Abel was born about 1805 in Otsego county. He was believed to be the son of Abel Deforest and Betsy Rogers.

He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Marble before 1827 (birth of first known child). They had a large family.

They were in Unadilla, Otsego, New York in 1830.^[1] The household included a white male, 20-30, a white female, 20-30, and two white females under the age of five. They continued to live in Unadilla in 1840.^[2] In addition to Abel and Betsy, there was a female 15-20, one 10-15, one 5-10, and two under five and a male 5-10. They were living next to Edmund Marble (Betsy's parents).

In 1850 and 1855, they were in Unadilla.^[3][4]

In 1860, 1865 and 1870, they were in Laurens, Otsego, New York.^[5][6][7]

He passed away on 22 Oct 1871.^[8] He wrote his will on 22 Oct 1871. He left his estate to Betsy during his lifetime, then equally divided between his surviving children. The will was probated on 20 Jan 1872 in Otsego county. It was initially opposed by Angeline Bennett, Ursula McMinn, and Charlotte Smith (daughters), who withdrew their objections on 5 June 1872.^[9]
