Biography

Joseph was born in 1867 and his birth was registered in the 4th quarter of that year in Bethnal Green, Middlesex. His mother's maiden name was Duncan.[1][2]

Joseph a barman, the son of Joseph Delaforce a publican, married Charlotte Curtis (1869 - ~1902) a box maker, the daughter of Thomas Carter a shoemaker, on the 16th August 1885 in St Thomas' Church, Bethnal Green, Middlesex. The witnesses were Joseph Connor and Mary Ann Delaforce. The marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter of that year in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.[3][4]

In 1890 his daughter Lilian was born and he was a carman, living at 65 Sales Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex.[5]

1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 Joseph was living at 25 Mape Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex with his wife Charlotte and his daughters Charlotte and Lilian.[6]

1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Joseph, a grocer's traveller, was living at 22 Burgoyne Road, Bethnal Green, Middlesex with his wife Charlotte and his children Lilian, Rosetta, Alfred, Ada and Daisy.[7]

1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 Joseph, a widower and a butcher, was living at 57 Morley Road, Stratford, London with his children Ada, Daisy and Albert. Albert was born more than one year after Joseph's wife Charlotte died and his mother is unknown.[8]

On the 26th December 1915 Joseph's daughter Lilian married Henry Samuel Pickup and Joseph, one of the witnesses, was shown as a traveller, meaning sales representative.[9][10]

On the 15th December 1920 Joseph's daughter Ada married Arthur Edward Pickup and the marriage certificate showed Joseph as a commercial traveller.[11][12]
