Ezra was born in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, April 8, 1832, the son of Ezra Kempton and Louisa Snow Delano. He passed away after November 15, 1868; this is based upon the Petition for Probate of his father's Last Will, in which Ezra was named as an heir-at-law and next of kin, and living in New York City.
On November 15, 1854, Ezra Delano of New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, son of Ezra K. Delano and Louisa Snow Delano (deceased), was married to Mary A. Wood of Westport, Bristol, Massachusetts, at Westport, by Asa N. Bodfish, Clergyman. Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Almira Macomber Wood.[1]
After their marriage, they were living with Mary's family in Westport, Bristol, Massachusetts.[2]
By 1868, it appears that Ezra K. Delano, Jr. may have abandoned his wife and children in Massachusetts, and moved to New York, New York, to seek employment as a boatman.
Under the terms of his father's will, following the death of his wife, Arvilla, and the marriage of his daughters, Louise and Elizabeth, the whole of his estate, real and personal, should be disposed of as follows:
“The same to be divided into six equal shares, one share of which I give and bequest to Arthur J. Delano and Emily F. Delano, children of my eldest son, Ezra Delano."
Each of Ezra's children, Timothy, William, Louisa, Elizabeth, and Charles, received one share, except his son, Ezra.
On March 4, 1872, as a friend, Arvilla Delano of New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, petitioned the Bristol County Probate Court for appointment as guardian of the minor children of Ezra Delano of New York City, and his wife, Mary Ann Delano, residing in Westport, Massachusetts; namely, Arthur J. Delano of Westport, Massachusetts, born October 5, 1855, and Emily Flora Delano of New Bedford, Massachusetts, born May 17, 1858.
These two children of Ezra and Mary Ann personally appeared and nominated Arvilla to be their guardian. Their mother, Mary Ann, assented to the granting of the petition.
On April 5, 1872, the court decreed the appointment of Arvilla Delano as guardian.
Further research indicates that the third child of Ezra and Mary Ann; namely, Sarah Delano, remained living with her mother and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Almira Wood, in Westport, Massachusetts, following the guardianship of her siblings to Arvilla Delano of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
It is fact that Sarah Delano married Jeremiah Pease of Fairhaven, Massachusetts; however, her maiden name is listed in sources as Wood, and her parents as, Joseph Wood and Almira Wood
Also, Mary Ann Wood Delano, widow of Ezra K. Delano, died on March 30, 1917, at the home of Mrs. J. H. Pease, 32 Summer Street, Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
