Samuel Bradford on the 18th of May 1775 in the regiment commanded by Col.?Thesphilius Cotton. I enlisted for the Term of Eight months & was stationed the most of this time in Roxbury near Boston. After completing this term of service I enlisted on the first of January 1776 for the term of one year. I served in the same company & in the regiment commanded by Col. John Bailey in the Massachusetts line & was marched from Roxbury to New York. Was transferred to a company of artilery commanded by Capt. Morton was in the retreat from New York & was marched from place to place after completing this term of service & completed a term of three years service & was discharged at ????? & had a written discharge which is here produced & is signed by Col. Henry? Jackson; during service I had a Sergeant warrant signed by Col. Jackson which is now in my posession. The whole period of my service was about six years & I think must have been altogether on the Continental establishement. I was at the taking of Burgoine. I am now in the sixtieth year of my age & am so reduced in circumstances taht I stand in need of assistance from my country for support. CONT In addition to the declaration above having no land nor any particular way to provide support i can with confidence and propriety subscribe to the oath of not only need but necessety of support from the country for which i was so long a time engaged in the defence of.
