Biography

Henry Thomas Dellinger was the child of Mathias Dellinger and Sarah Franklin. "My son H. T. Dellinger" was a beneficiary in his father's 1877 will.[1]

"Private Henry T. Dellinger resided in Mitchell or Watauga County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting at age 16 on 30 December 1861 [born 1845]. Discharged on 1 February 1862, presumably by reason of his youth."[2]

Spouse 1: Mary Jane Harrison 1851-1906
Married 10 January 1872 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.[3]

Mary Jane "Jennie" was born February 1851 according to the 1900 Census. She likely is buried at Jonas Ridge Cemetery in Burke County: "Jennie Dellinger died 1906."[4] Cecil Dellinger and David Dellinger are buried next to her and she and Henry Thomas Dellinger had sons of those names. Another Find A Grave memorial claims she is buried at Pisgah Cemetery, which seems to be an error.[5]

Spouse 2. Martha Emeline (Bryant) Bradshaw c1866-after 1910
Licensed 20 May 1908 and married 24 May 1908 in Mitchell County, H. T. Dellinger, age 55 [sic], to Emma Bradshaw, age 40. Married at Linville Township by W. H. Calaway, Minister. Witnesses: J. B. Parrish, M. H. Rose [H.T.'s son-in-law], Nelson Rose [brother of M. H. Rose].

Thomas's death certificate and censuses indicate he was born in 1845; a grave marker at Pisgah Cemetery which may be his is inscribed with an incorrect birth year: "Tom Dellinger 1833-1916."[9]

North Carolina State Board of Health, death certificate 74, Avery County, Altamont Township, Thomas Henry Dillenger, born 28 April 1845 in North Carolina, died 6 January 1916, age 70 years 8 months 9 days.
