Biography

Charles Demone was born July 4, 1807, the son of Frederick Demone and Sophia Catherine Lohnes. He was baptised July 7th by the Dutch Reformed Church of Lunenburg. His godparents were Charles Demone and wife, Catharine.[1][2] His daughter Elizabeth's death certificate says her father Charles was born in Camperdown (Lunenburg County) so that seems to reinforce that this is the correct Charles married to Lucy and he had moved from Lunenburg County to Queens County.

It seems that Charles married Lucy Oikle in 1840 although documentation of this marriage has not been confirmed yet. They appear to have moved to Queens County where they turn up in the census records in 1861.[3] The family consists of 2 females 10-15 [Elizabeth & Adelaide], 2 males 15-20 [George & James], 1 female 15-20 [Mary Ann] plus Charles and Lucy both aged 40-50. This seems to match reasonably closely with Charles' family but Charles should have been in the 50-60 group unless the census is wrong. None of the census in 1871/1881/1891 had their ages correct so either they didn't know their exact ages (not uncommon in those times) or the census takers were very inaccurate.

They appear in the census of 1871,[4] and 1881,[5] and by 1891[6] they are living with their daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Ephraim Whynacht.

The records of Thomas Brenton Smith show that Charles passed away on November 26, 1893[7] according to a death notice in the Liverpool Advance newspaper. The location of death was recorded as Middlefield, Queens County and this where the "poor farm" at that time was located so it is logical to assume that he was a resident in that facility as was his wife who died there in 1897. There is a cemetery at that location (Pleasantfield-Middlefield Cemetery) so presumably they might be buried there in unmarked graves.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Charles by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Charles:

Is there any source to confirm that this Charles Demone, son of Frederick, is the same Charles that married Lucy Eichel? It was supposed to be October 15, 1840 according to the tree of Gail Facini Edwards (http://gail.elementfx.com/fam2519.html) which is unsourced but I haven't been able to find anything on the marriage. Both their deaths are recorded by Thomas Brenton Smith if it is the same Charles - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95NC-WP8. Charles, son of Frederick, is a 1st cousin 5 times removed in my tree.

No, there isn't a marriage record I could find. The dates on the census and the birth records line up pretty well, and there aren't any other recorded Charles Demones of that age. But the identity of Charles and Lucy are pretty circumstantial.
