Rose (Dempsey) Tully was born in Scotland.

Rose was born in May 1898, Bellshill, Lanark. Parents being Alexander Dempsey and Rose McAuley. ^[1]

Rose Dempsey age 2 years, birthplace Bellshill, Lanark, daughter of Alexander Dempsey age 33 years, occupation Iron Work Labourer, birthplace Ireland, her mother Rose Dempsey age 43 years, birthplace Ireland. Siblings in the household Agnes Dempsey, age 73? (13), recorded as attending School (Scholar), birthplace Ireland, Martha Dempsey 11 years, ( Scholar), birthplace Bellshill, Lanark, Alexander Dempsey age 9, (Scholar), birthplace Bellshill, Lanark, Elizabeth Dempsey age 7, (Scholar), birthplace Bellshill, Lanark, John Dempsey age 5 years, birthplace Bellshill, Lanark and James age 1 month, birthplace Shettleston. Note: The 1901 Census above has Agnes age as 73 years. I believe this is an error, age she should read 13 ....

Her sister, Sarah missing in the Census, it is known that Sarah had worked away from home at Muthil. I wonder if this is the period she did this....

1916 After Publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church, in Mossend, Lanark. Rose Dempsey, age 17 years, spinster, residence 224 Clydesdale Road, Mossend, married Michael Tully, age 23 years, bachelor, occupation Coal Miner, residence 1 Academy Square, Mossend. Witnesses Peter Daly and Martha Dempsey.^[3]

1917 When her sister Martha Dempsey married Patrick. Rose and Michael Tully were the recorded witnesses. The marriage was held in Mossend, Lanark .

It is believed that Rose and her husband Michael ran a Bed and Breakfast (B&B), in Dover England. ( not source located to confirm yet).

1970 Rose Tully age about 72 years died. Death registered in Dover, England. ^[4]

• My friend Isabel from Bellshill, whom I've known since we started school at 5 years old (now we're 79) whose mother told me she had been in service with Sarah Dempsey at sometime.

Her father told me that Rose Dempsey was called "Wee Rosie Blue socks" as she used to wear blue socks and dance behind the flute band at the Orange Walk.

I wasn't thrilled to hear that when I was 19.
