Biography

François Marie 1st Denis de Keredern de Trobriand was the son of the second marriage of Jean Elie II Denis, lord of Keredern of Trobriand. He was born in Plouigneau on April 26, 1741.

In 1764, in the rebellion of the Parliament of Britain against The Duke of Aiguillon, he was outlawed and went to Spain where he joined the navy. Posted in Central America, he made the acquaintance of the daughter of the governor of Caracas in Venezuela, born in 1748 in Pasajes (Guipuzcoa province of Pamplona in Spain), Anna Maria Teresa Massa y Leunda y Aristiguieta, whom he married in Havana, Cuba, June 30, 1768.

The first son of the couple, François Marie II, was born in Plouigneau (Finistère) in 1769. François Marie then returned to France and was assigned to the coastal defense of Trégor, first to Lezardrieux and then to Pleubian. It was in these small Breton towns of the present Côtes d'Armor that her five other children were born, Joseph Vincent, Jacques Pierre Romain, Louise Jeanne Nicole (called Fanny) are born, Rosalie (called Rose) and Hilarie. He died on December 30, 1801.
