Biography

Daniel Denison, b. March 28, 1680 at Stonington, Connecticut, was the sixth child of John Denison and Phoebe Lay. He was Christened 18 JUN 1680 at Stonington by Rev. James Noyes.

Daniel Denison married 1st, Jan. 1, 1703/04, Mary Stanton, daughter of Robert and Joanna (Gardner) Stanton of Pawcatuck, Stonington, Connecticut. Their marriage was bestowed by Nehemiah Palmer, J.P.[1]She was born Feb. 3, 1687/88, thus was married when not yet sixteen years old. During the ensuing twenty years Mary became the mother of all children of Daniel Denison, all born at Stonington, of which there were at least nine, perhaps ten:

Mary (Stanton) Denison died Sept. 2, 1724 in the 38th year of her age, only one week following the cited birth of her last child.

Daniel Denison married 2nd, Jane Cogswell of Long Island, Oct. 27, 1726. There were no children of this second marriage.

He married 3rd, Nov. 17, 1737, Mrs. Abigail Fish Eldredge, who outlived him about 37 years, dying June 17, 1784 aged 94 yrs. They were married by Rev. Ebenezer Rosseter

Daniel Denison was a Deacon of the first Congregational Church in Stonington [1].

Daniel Denison died Oct. 13, 1747, aged 67 yrs. His grave is in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, New London County, Connecticut: Find A Grave: Memorial #71196292; headstone inscription:

In Memory of Deacon Daniel Denison died October 13th 1747 Aged 67 years
