Biography
Sarah Jane Dennis was the daughter of Octavius Dennis (a licensed vitualler) and Ann Snaith both of whom were born in Yorkshire, England. Sarah was born in the September Quarter of 1854 in Stockton, Durham, England (although her place of birth in various census was recorded as West Hartlepool, Durham, England). Her birth was registered under the name of Dinness but she appears to have used the name Dennis throughout her unmarried years.
She had six siblings, three brothers and three sisters. Sadly, her eldest brother William James died before he reached his first birthday. Sarah married Henry Peacock (also born in Yorkshire, England) in the December Quarter of 1880 in Hartlepool, Durham, England. After her marriage to Henry she continued to live in Hartlepool, Durham, England with him and their children until her death in 1905 at the age of 50 years old.
Over her lifetime Sarah was recorded in 5 UK Census from 1861 to 1901. These census revealed that Sarah had a long involvement with Brunswick Street in Hartlepool, Durham, England with every one of those census recording that street as her place of abode. As a child Sarah can be found living in the George Hotel with her parents and siblings and then as an adult she lived in that same hotel with her husband and children.
