Research Notes

William Dennis appears in Magna Carta Ancestry in a Richardson-documented trail from Gateway Ancestor Barbara (Aubrey) Bevan to Magna Carta Surety Baron Robert de Vere (vol. I, pages 73-75 AUBREY). However, this trail goes through Beaufort-6 who in 2019 was disproved as being the daughter of Alice (FitzAlan) de Arundel, thereby breaking this trail. See 2019 soc.genealogy.medieval post for more information.

I have removed the Magna Carta Project as a profile manager and moved information about the broken Magna Carta trail to a research note.

Hi all,

According to Wikipedia, Katherine (Denys) Lygon is a daughter.

Kindest regards ~ Pam

Thanks. She was already in the list of children in the bio. I have now connected her up.

pretty sure the Magna Carta trail intended is broken at Beaufort-6.

Perhaps I misunderstand, but if Joan Beaufort Stradling (Beaufort-6) is a daughter of Cardinal Henry Beaufort, it would make her the descendant of several Magna Carta barons, no?

Neither Joan or Henry have Magna Carta connections. See their profiles. They DO have royal ancestors however.

Yes, It occurred to me just after sending the message, that Henry would only have royal ancestry, with the exception of his mother (whose ancestry can't be traced beyond her own father). Truer to normal royal marriages, all Henry's ancestors--who married into the Plantagenet dynasty--were foreigners. It was only among the Yorks and Lancasters that royals began marrying women of the English aristocracy. I suppose when I wrote the message I was assuming Joan's mother to be Alice FitzAlan, who would surely have dozens of Magna Carta descents, though I understand that she, as mother of Joan Beaufort Stradling, is only highly likely, not proven.

Greetings Traci, Thank you for your response to my private message. Now I have found where we were discussing this, but couldn't figure out how to send you another private message. lol. Thank you, also, for the warning with regard to spam--I once chanced upon that network and noticed the colorful distractions, shall we say. I also noticed how vicious and disrespectful people can be in their responses to each other. I was particularly impressed with Richardson's graciousness in responding to some folks who were literal brats, wearing the cloak of genealogical purity. Ironically, there was little trace of noblesse in the manner of many I read. Richardson handled them with such aplomb! Since, I had lost the link--so thank you for it. I would very much like to see developments there.

Hi! The Magna Carta Project has identified this person as on a 'trail' from gateway ancestor Aubrey-17 to Surety Barons Bigod-1 and De Vere-309. We will be developing this profile in line with project guidelines. (See Base Camp, contact person Anderson-35092.

Noticed Margaret Dennis isn't listed as a daughter of William & Anne; however in the bio for William, she is listed as a daughter & married to an Arnold. Margaret's profile is Dennis-3233 & shows her marriage to Nicholas Arnold. To add Margaret to William Dennis & Anne Berkeley requires some one who is Pre-1500 certified.

A birth year is really helpful, even if it is only a rough estimate (like 1490 here).
