Biography

Orrin was the son of Orlo and Hazel Green Dennis. He was married to Pauline Hanson, the daughter of Hans and Hilda Larson Hanson and had two small sons at the time of his death. He served in Italy during WWII. Pauline was notified that her husband had been killed on 10 July 1944 while serving in the Italian Campaign.

Pvt. Orrin Dennis, who gave his life in the Italian campaign July 10, 1944, is coming home to rest on native soil and among the friends and relatives, whose liberty he safeguarded with his life. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Dennis of Sand Lake, have been notified that his body will arrive from Chicago Wednesday, July 6. Pvt. Dennis will repose at the McKinley Funeral Home in Grant where funeral services will be held. The day and time of the funeral had not been set when The Clipper went to press.

Pvt. Dennis Will Be Buried Today

A military escort accompanied the body of Pvt. Orris Dennis to his native community when it arrived Wednesday at the McKinley chapel in Grant. Pvt. Dennis, 23, gave his life for his country near Fallonica, Italy, July 10, 1944. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 2 o'clock at the McKinley chapel with Rev. Milton McColley of the Sand Lake Methodist church officiating. Interment will be in North Ensley cemetery. Pvt. Dennis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Dennis of Ensley, was inducted into service Sept. 30, 1943, at Fremont. He trained at Ft. Sheridan, Ill., and Ft. McClellan, Ala., before going overseas in April 1944. Three months later he gave his life in war. He was buried in a temporary military cemetery near Florence, Italy. Surviving is his widow, Pauline; two sons, Orrin E. Jr., and Leon John; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Dennis of Ensley; three sisters, Mrs. Alton Cook of Muskegon, and Vera and Evelyn Dennis of Ensley.

Dennis-9778 and Dennis-2743 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person, I have seen the first name spelled as Orren and Orrin. He was my great Aunt Pauline's first husband.
