OBITUARY: Arvin Hanibal Dennis, 86, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away in Amarillo on July 25, 2018. Arvin was born in Quanah, Texas on December 19, 1931 to Sallye and Thomas M. Dennis. He attended Quanah High School and graduated in 1950. He then attended Abilene Christian College for a year and a half before serving in the Army from 1952 to 1954.

In 1955, Arvin moved to Vernon, TX and married Dorris Straughan of Quanah. After her death in 1995, he married Peggy Fallin of Wichita Falls, TX and they would have celebrated their 22nd anniversary on August 2nd.

Upon returning from building roads in France while serving in the US Army, Arvin worked on the road crew around Vernon. He then worked hauling gas for Mobile Oil Company before working for the state at the Vernon Center North until he retired. He was a faithful member of the Wilbarger St. Church of Christ in Vernon where he served as a deacon and then the Comanche Trail Church of Christ in Amarillo.

Arvin is survived by his wife Peggy of Amarillo, TX; children Mendy (Dennis) and Chip Kooi of Edmond, OK, Corlis (Fallin) and Myrle Metcalf of Amarillo, TX, Eddie and Marti Fallin of Amarillo, TX and Sheila (Fallin) and Sean Tardiff of Arkansas; sister Judith (Dennis) Scharnagel of Lompoc, California; six grandchildren and their spouses and seven precious great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his first wife Dorris (Straughan) Dennis of Vernon, TX; his parents T.M. and Sallye Dennis of Vernon, TX; sisters Tommye Dennis of Vernon, TX, Jane (Dennis) Jolley of Enid, OK, Renee (Dennis) Parks of Wichita Falls, TX, Rebekah (Dennis) Rektenwald of Abilene, TX and two granddaughters – Hannah Jane Kooi and Sarah Elizabeth Thompson.

Family Visitation will be at Sullivan’s Funeral Home in Vernon, TX on Friday, July 27th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 11:00 AM at Sullivan’s Funeral Home in Vernon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Animal-Panhandle Humane Society or the Shriners Hospital.
