Gloom over Holsworthy[4]
This disaster has cast a gloom over Holsworthy, there being no less than seven passengers from this district on board the ill-fated vessel. Mr. L. Braund, a native of Bridgerule, who had been on a visit to his native home after several years absence in Canada, had persuaded five of his relatives to accompany him back to Canada. These included his brother, Mr. O. Braund, farmer, Bridgerule; Messrs. S and W Dennis, Whitstone; Mr. John Perkin, butcher, Holsworthy; and Mr. J Lovell, farmer, of Ashbury. The other passenger was Miss. S. Webber, of North Tamerton, who was going on a visit to her brother. Up to the present, Miss Webber is the only one of the party who has been reported safe.
