Biography

Walter Dent, son of Walter and Elizabeth Dent, was christened in St John's Parish, Prince Georges Parish, on 7 January 1765.[1] The parent's names make one believe this is our Walter C Dent. However, the 1776 Prince George County census, lists Walter C. Dent age 4 (thus born about 1772) in the household of Walter Dent, age 32, with Elizabeth Dent 35, Margarett Montgomery 29, Chloe Dent 9, Jane Dent 5, Anne Dent 2, Margaret 25 and Timothy 20 (the latter two likely slaves or servants)[2]. Which date should we use? Perhaps the Walter Dent christened in 1765 died and Walter and Elizabeth named their next son Walter but added a middle initial?

In the 1820 Putnam Co. GA census, Walter C Dent was 45+, which would make him born any time before 1775 and does nothing to clarify the birth date[3].
