  • According to discharge, Marmaduke was very ill, and had been for months. Military Doctor's did not expect him to live, yet he was alive in 1900, and the father of at least 10 children.

Military

Enlisted June 16 1861, Clarksburg, Virginia, Union 6th Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry. Marmaduke was a private. He was discharged for medical reasons (diabetes) as he had been ill for ten months and unfit for duty. Upon his discharge, it was noted that he would probably never recover and that he was greatly emaciated.

During his active service in the military, his horse was shot out from under him, and he had bullet holes in his shirt and hat.[6]
