Biography

Birth

Annaline was born in 1817, the daughter of Benjamin Denton and Griselle "Grace" Fuller of Stillwater, Saratoga, New York.

Life

She married first Lettis Wing on 28 Dec 1837 in Saratoga county, New York. They had three children. They moved to La Salle county, Illinois where Lettis died.

Annaline Wing was referred to in her father Benjamin Denton's will, written 04 Nov 1847.[1]

She was in a list of heirs, which also listed her as the wife of Lettis Wing and her location as Ottawa, La Salle, Illinois.:

"That he left a Widow to wit Sarah Denton said deponent and the following as his only heirs & next of kin Viz Phebe Ellsworth wife of Ephraim D. Ellsworth, Richard Denton, Ransom Denton, Daniel Denton, Clancy Denton. Sandy Hill Wash. County N.Y., Annalina Wing wife of Lettis Wing Ottowa La Salla Co. Illinois. "

She did not receive a portion of the inheritance:

"And at the time that my youngest Child shall have become fifteen Years of age it is my will that the Said Sum of money be equally divided amongst all my children my daughter Annaline Wing excepted"

It is possible that she had received a dowry and hence was excluded from a further inheritance.

She married second James Read approximately 1849, probably in Saratoga or Cattaraugus county in New York. They had five children, all dying young except for son Clarence. In 1850, after they were first married, they were living in Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York.[2]

They moved to the Farm Ridge township of La Salle county to farm the land that she and Lettis Wing owned. In 1860, she was there with James and their blended family of children from their previous marriages. [3] She was on the census there in 1880 as head of household.[4]

Death

She passed away in 1894. Her death was noted in the Ottawa, Illinois history book published in 1914:[5]

"March - The list of the departed earlier settlers was decreased by the death of Mrs. Analina Reed. She came west in 1848 with her first husband, who died a few years afterward. She subsequently married her second husband, who died in 1865."

She is buried with her two husbands in Grand Ridge cemetery in La Salle county, Illinois. [6]
