Drexel was a profession boxer, and owned a restaurant in Michigan. He also owned a trucking company and was a union official. He ran afoul of other union members, or perhaps, the mob, who blew up his car. After moving to Las Vegas, Drexel started a restaurant on Fremont Street called the Hickory Wood. This location has now become the McDonalds on Fremont Street. His grandson remembers him talking about his father being a coal miner. They would send Drexel, at the age of 7, to run in and light the dynamite.
