Lois was born in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan on 28 Apr 1934. She was the daughter of Lee Denton and Opal Pettit.

In 1937 after the death of her Mother Opal Pettit. The story is Lois and her brother Jack went to live in an Orphanage and after a struggle their Aunt Glorvina Denton.

After her father married in 1939, Lois was back with her father and siblings.

In 1940 Lois is found on the Census in Ada, Township, Kent, Michigan, United States. With her father, stepmother. brothers, sisters, and stepbrother.
