William was born about 1840 in Virginia. He was the son of Jacob and Catherine Denton.[1]
He served as a Private in Company F of 63rd (Fain's) Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry (Confederate).[2] He was listed on the roll as absent and sick in the hospital many times during his service.[3][4]
He passed away at home[5] on March 25, 1864 and is buried in the Baker-Denton Cemetery in Bluff City, Sullivan County, Tennessee.[6]
He shares a marker with his younger brother Henderson who also died during the Civil War.[7]
