Biography

Richard Denton 3rd immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
This profile is part of the Denton Name Study.

Richard Denton is possibly the son of Rev Richard Denton who migrated to New England between 1635 and 1640. However, according to Walter C. Krumm in his book, "Descendants of the Rev. Richard Denton," "there is nothing to connect the two except for their names and the fact that there seem to have been no other Dentons in New England or New Netherland at this time." If he was a son, he would have been the youngest. Questions arise such as when and where was he born since there is no record of his baptism either in England or New England; when and how did he get to Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony? [1]

On December 11, 1657 Richard married Ruth Tileston in Dorchester; Major Atherton performed the ceremony. Her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Tileston and she was baptized October 3, 1641 at Boston and died December 5, 1677.[1]

The couple had no children. Richard died December 26, 1659 in Dorchester. He and Elizabeth had been married only a year at his death. His estate was filed October 6, 1659 and amounted to L57, 5s and was bequeathed to his wife.[1]
