Biography

John Randolph was born on June 21, 1834.[1] He was a son of Hugh Depriest and Sarah (Goodman) Depriest.

John was a farmer throughout his life.

In 1850, John R is living with parents Hugh Depriest and Sarah in Perry County, Tennessee. In 1860, John is living with wife Elizabeth and children, Henry H and Fredonia. They are listed directly above Elizabeth Ward, age 49, farmer with children Hamilton, Hugh, Houston, Polina, Julianne, and farmhand Alfred Kelly. The children's names match Elizabeth Depriest's siblings. John's mother, Sarah Depreist and son Henry are also found on the same page (family 35).

November 9, 1861, John R Depriest enlisted in Company K, 42 Regiment Tennessee Infantry at Camp Cheatham. He was present at the March and April 1863 muster rolls.

In 1870, J. R. is living with children: Fredonia, Houston, Hughey, John, and Molly in Perry County, Tennessee. On or about October 3, 1872, he married Catherine Lewelling. In 1880, J R is living with wife Catherine and children: John, Mary, and Willie M in Carroll County, Tennessee.

In 1900, John and Catherine are living with 12-year old grandson Robert in Gibson County, Tennessee.

John passed away on March 13, 1912 with Pneumonia. He is buried in Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Milan, Gibson, Tennessee.

  • CONFLATION WARNING: John E (Elias or Ellis) DePriest was born to Simpson Alexander DePriest about the same time as John Randolph, also in Hickman county, Tennessee. John E married Mary Jane Hooper in 1853. He moved to Arkansas.
