Capt. Jonathan Derby[1] was born in 1754,[2] some say in Lebanon, New Lebanon, Connecticut others in Orford, Grafton, New Hampshire.

Jonathan is the son of Jonathan and Abigail (Dewey) Derby.[3]

He married Sarah Strong in 1776. They had seven children together.

Jonathan was a farmer in Orford, New Hampshire, and after 1822 lived in Peru, Clinton, New York and then Essex, New York.

Captain Jonathan Derby was a member of the New Hampshire Militia and went on to serve in the Revolutionary War. He drew pension payments during the years 1831-1838, in Albany, New York.

Jonathan Derby died October 6, 1838.[4][5]. However, the U.S. Military pension payment records show Jonathan's death as 28 Oct 1838.[6]
