Matthew Derby

"Mathew, of Barnstable, b. at Yarmouth 8 Feb 1649/50 (Plymouth Colony Records, Miscellaneous Records, P. 9); d., probably s.p.,between 6 July 1671 and 1 Mar. 1674/5, for on 6 july 1671, in the settlement of the estate of John Turner, the Court declared that Mathew Darbey was entitled to all of said Turner's estate except a mare (The Mayflower Descendant,vol. 19, p.61), and on 1 Mar. 1674/5, it appearing "to the Court [held at Plymouth], that Jabez Lumbert was left by Mathew Darbey, deceased, order to looke after his estate in his absence, which hee hath in this collonie, this Court therfore doth order, that the said Jabez Lumbert doe looke after and gather in all such dues and debts as are owing and belonging to the said Darbeyes estate, and keepe a faire accompt of the same, soe as hee may be reddy to giue in the same accompt, when aayr heireshall appeer, or when the Court shall see couse to require it." A note in the magrgin against this record shows that the Court granted to the said Lumbert administration on this estate. (Plymouth Colony Records, Court Orders, vol. 5, p. 160.) Jabez Lumbert was the husband of Mathew Derby's sister Sarah..." ^[1]
