Biography
Marie Agathe was born on May 30, 1758 at L'Assomption, Montréal, New France, daughter of Louis Amable Marais and Marie Agathe Beignet. She was baptized the same day at St-Sulpice, L'Assomption, Montréal, New France.[1]
Birth and Childhood
Marie Agathe Louise Marais/Desmarias/Marat was born 30 May 1758 in St Sulpice, L'Assomption, Quebec [2] during the turmoil of the Seven Years War (French & Indian War).
She was the daughter of Louis Amable Marais/Desmarais/Marat and Marie Agathe Beignet. When she was approximately two years old her father died. Her mother remarried to Joseph LaPerche dit St Jean in October 1760.
Her stepfather was perhaps the man she regarded as her father and in some documents Marie Agather Louise Demarais/Marais/Marat used the family name of ST JEAN.

Desmarais-91 and Marais-809 appear to represent the same person because: Marie Louise Agathe Desmarais Marais Maret (and also dit St Jean) . One woman has all these names and is identified in the PRDH as Individual #222053. She was the daughter of Louis Amable Marais Maret and MARIE AGATHE Beignet. She married Alexis Rivet January 10, 1785 in St Sulpice. Her first child Marie Louise was born illegitimate about 1779 according to the PRDH.
