Biography

Genevieve Desmarais was born at St-Marc-sur-Richelieu on July 6, 1841 ^[1][2] and she was baptized the same day at nearby St-Charles-sur-Richelieu. The priest appears to have made an error and recorded her father as Charles Chicoine. [This has been verified with the PRDH family group sheet]. Charles' surname was definitely Desmarais at his marriage in 1838 to Genevieve Phenix. ^[3] Genevieve Desmarais was the third child of ten and the second daughter of six for Charles Desmarais and Genevieve Phenix. Sadly, seven of her siblings died as infants.

Genevieve Desmarais married Michel Henri Claude dit Labossiere on January 19, 1858 at Ste-Rosalie. ^[4] He was the first child of five and the first son of two for Michel Labossière and Desanges Remi. The family appears to have referred to Genevieve as Rosienne. She is recorded this way in the1957 Labossiere Family Tree

They had eight children, six boys and two girls, born between 1859 - 1873. Two of the children died as infants and their eldest son, died in a train wreck at age 21. He appears to have been the engineer. ^[5]

Genevieve died October 20, 1873 at Ste-Rosalie about two and one half months after the birth of her last child. ^[8] She was buried there two days later. She was only 32 years old. The child, her last son, died a month later at only three months old.

Michel remarried to Alphonsine Boulay on July 01, 1874 at St-Hyacinthe. Michel and Alphonsine had seven children. Michel died Sept. 1, 1907 at Bagot and was buried there two days later. No burial record has been found for Alphonsine.
