Jesse Devers was born on September 18, 1949 to the parentage of Benjamin (Buddy) Devers and Ethel Johnson Devers in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Jesse confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age by Reverend J.D. Wiggins at Republican Baptist Church in Mooringsport, Louisiana. Jesse later moved to Dallas, and united with Greater Memorial B.C. where he became part of the Men Ministry known as The Lions of Judah, he was a faithful participant and loved the brotherhood and participated wholeheartedly until death.
Jesse received his formal education at Greenmoore Elementary School and Walnut Hill High School in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. After serving his country, Jesse returned and was employed at the United States Post Office, where he retired after 45 years of dedicated service.
Jesse was united in Holy matrimony on September 18, 1976 to Brenda Luster to this union one child was born. Jesse met Jacqueline in 1986 and was later united in Holy matrimony on November 22, 2001 to Jacqueline Taylor to this union two children were born.
Jesse loved his wife and family, he was a great father, brother, and friend. Jesse was always willing to lend a helping hand. Once he retired a tradition began with the grandkids, he would faithfully take them to the park every Wednesday. He was an amazing grandfather that will truly be missed. One of Jesse’s favorite pastimes was the game of dominoes, he was the king of the table, and truly enjoyed playing every Sunday evening as well as during the week.
Jesse transitioned from Earth to Glory on Sunday October 20, 2019. His parents preceded him in death as well as his brother William Devers and sister Bertha Mae Dotie.
Jesse leaves to cherish his memories: Wife Jacqueline Taylor Devers, one brother Willie (Idarean) Shreveport, LA., two sisters Bessie Devers, and Ethel Devers Blanks of Dallas, TX. Father-in-law Sammy Taylor, two sister-in-laws Linda Simpson, and Annett (Rodrick) Reed, three brother-in-laws Sammy, Ricky and Anthony (Tryvia) Taylor, Corey Boyd. Two daughters Kaneisha Devers Brown, and Shoniqua Lucas, four sons Kethan Devers, LaDarrin Devers, Clarence (Amaura) Lucas of Dallas, TX., Kevin (Cheryl) Luster Waskom, Texas. 11 grandchildren who will miss him so very much, they were his heart: Shakayla, Lola, Nevaeh, Luke, King, Jorden, Kevin Jr., Royal, Ayden, Za’Dan, and Kevonte. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
