Biography

Elizabeth (Devine) Browning was born circa 1771, in Virginia. Elizabeth is found on the United States Census of 1850, living in Jackson county, Tennessee with her son, Henry Rice Browning and his five children. [1]

Researcher's Notes

There is a good case for Elizabeth's name being Devine, other than just that this is traditionally her maiden name. Also, her first daughter was named "Elizabeth Devine Browning," which is a common way that people gave their children a middle name in this time period. Her daughter's name is also Brown, and might cause some confusion.Find A Grave: Memorial #14514651

Jackson county became Clay county in 1870. This family lived near present day Hermitage Springs in Clay county, and many of them are buried in Red Boiling Springs, about 25 miles away, in Macon county, Tennessee.
