William was born in 1875. He was the son of Jeremiah Devlin and Angela Mulholland. On Thursday, July 21, 1938, at 4:15 p.m, Father William Devlin departed this life at Saint Isaac Jogues Novitiate, Wernersville, Pennsylvania.[1]

1893 entered the Society of Jesus in Maryland
1893, studied at Woodstock College
1910 became a professor at Boston College and eventually became the dean.
1919, Devlin was appointed president of Boston College.
1925 became the rector of St. Andrew-on-Hudson, a Jesuit novitiate in New York.
1933 made rector of the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan.
