LOUIS FREDRICK DEVLIN OBITUARY ( 4-10-1924 Guttenberg Press, Guttenberg, IA , Clayton County) Louis Fredrick Devlin Changes wrought by time found illustration on Monday when the body of Louis Fredrick Devlin of Stitzer, was brought to Guttenberg by rail, and was buried by that of his wife who was laid to rest in Guttenberg cemetery thirty-two years ago. Deceased was born at the old Devlin homestead located on the banks of the Mississippi about three miles southeast of Guttenberg. His parents were John Devlin, born in Ireland, and Margaret Monahan (ed. Monaghan) of Scotch parentage. They came to America, to St. Louis and here, maybe as early as 1852, or three, or four. Louis was born Dec. 7, 1859, and died at Stitzer, Wis., April 4, 1924, aged 64 years, 3 months and 28 days. His wife was Mary McCloud of Glen Haven, Wis., who long ago passed away. Of the brothers and sisters of Louis, one remains, John of Viroqua, Wis., too aged and infirm to venture out to the funeral. With the body came his children - Mrs. Fred Brendmuhl (ed. Brendemuehl) of Bloomington, Wis.; Mrs. Lily Wenzel of Stitzer, Wis.; and sons, James of Woodman, Wis.; and Charles, of 1237 North La Salle St., Chicago, Ill. Also Rev. Sires of McGregor, who conducted services at the grave. As long as his parents lived on the old farm deceased followed the occupation of farming. About 30 years ago the home place was sold to Fred Mueller, and John Devlin moved to Guttenberg. Louis was employed thereafter at various places. About 18 years ago he went to Wisconsin. The last years of his life were spent at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wenzel and family, at Stitzer, Wis.[1]
