Louis Adolphe (listed as Adolph Louis) and his family were residents of Nerville-la-Forêt at the time of the 1891 census, at which time he was listed as a woodcutter (bûcheron). He is listed as a resident as a resident of Presles in the 1896, 1901, 1906, and 1911 census. As a resident of Presles, the census records indicate that he was a "marchand de quatre saisons" (a costermonger, or a street vendor who sells fruits and vegetables).
