Heffer was born in about July 1819 at Harston, Cambridgeshire, England. He was the son of Robert Dew and Mary Heffer. He was baptised on 25 July 1819 in Harston, Cambridge, England [1].
He married Jane (Morley) Dew (abt.1821-bef.1880) (daughter of James Morley and Elizabeth Arnold) on 7 June 1840 in Harston, Cambridgeshire, England [2]
In the 1841 census Heffer (age 20) was in Batting End, Harston, Cambridgeshire, England.[3].

Heffer appeared before the court in Cambridge at the age of 28 yrs with his fellow villagers for A RIOT due to the machinery being used on the farms. They appeared on the 30th June 1848 at the County Sessions and were all found not guilty.
In the 1851 census Heffer (age 30), Farmers Labrour, was the married head of household in Harston, Cambridgeshire, England.[4].

Heffer and his wife Jane and their 5 children; Hannah 13 years, James 10 years, Charles 8 years, Eliza 2 Years and Thomas 1 year. emigrated from Harston, Cambridge, England to Australia, departing on 7 June 1853. [5]
The ship ”Clara” arrived in the Swan River Colony on the 3rd September 1853. She carried a human cargo of 48 married couples with their children numbering 101 and 124 single females. [5] [6].
The family first settled in Toodyay and Northam, Western Australia. He worked for the Sewells in 1875.[7]. Original Occupation Agricultural Labourer. They had 3 or 4 children after their arrival in Australia.
Heffer was a farm labourer and small farmer at Avon location 725 (40 acres)[7].
Heffer was not successful in his new country due to ill health but his children were given a better life.
He was blind when he was admitted to the Invalid Depot in 1882. [7]
Heffer passed away on 7 January 1895 at the Mount Eliza Mens Home in Perth, Western Australia, Australia, age 76 years (Death Registration records surname as Dhun). [8] [9]
He was buried on 8 January 1895 at the Old East Perth Cemeteries, Perth, City of Perth, Western Australia, Australia in a paupers grave. [10] [11] No records can be found as to when and where his wife Jane died.
